XLSX and CSV: what actually changes
A CSV is one flat table of text. An XLSX workbook is many sheets of typed cells, formulas, formatting and charts. Converting flattens all of that: only the first sheet is exported, formulas become their computed values, and every cell arrives as a string.
That is the right trade when something downstream — a database import, a data pipeline, a script — wants plain rows and nothing else. Watch out for dates, which lose their type, and for leading zeros in things like postcodes and account numbers.
